Push to talk for brief dictation

For shorter dictations, such as brief replies to people or ChatGPT, I sometimes find it inconvenient to press my key command twice. This can create resistance in using Superwhisper compared to simply typing. It would be great if holding down the shortcut could activate a 'push-to-talk' mode. In this mode, Superwhisper would detect the keypress and initiate dictation. After approximately 2 seconds, if the keys are still held down, the mode would automatically engage. Releasing the shortcut would then stop the transcription and paste the text.

push to talk button, seems a lot more intuitive and natural than using the trigger to record and press it again to stop, I’ve been in the beta test for https://www.flowvoice.ai/, Flow by Wispr, and they have two option - push to talk as main and second option as double tap the same key to put it in continuous mode until you tap it to stop, and I seem to be using Flow with push to talk mode a lot more than superwhisper even though I have superwhisper pro account, especially for a very short messages where I hold push to talk and immediately start speaking and as soon as I release the button, the message gets inserted

Neil Chudleigh Sanjeev I believe using Flow feels easier because it allows the Fn key to be the triggering shortcut. A doubletap keeps the button pressed.
I've found push to talk with one key is much convenient than holding a modifier and another key while I talk. It would be great if we could use Fn alone shortcut.

Jayasimhan Masilamani Yeah totally agree with Jayasimhan. Combined with the minimal view, it makes it really easy to do push-to-talk as the default.
Using two buttons adds that much more friction.

Never thought about that, that would be great!
